Techniques To Try - Brusho with Stampin' Up! Magical Mermaid

Here we are again with another great technique for you to try - and lots of great ideas of how to use this fascinating medium.

If you are new to our Blog Hop you will see ideas from Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world. We all love to share ideas and different ways to explore all the wonderful techniques that are available via Stampin' Up! If you are starting at my blog - Ann Craig - welcome, and enjoy the other samples and ideas as you hop along.

This month we are using the magical Brusho Water-colour Crystals. The Stampin' Up! offering of Brusho comes in a pack of 5 colours, and you can mix just about any colour from these 5. The colours available in my store are Brilliant Red, Prussian Blue, Gamboge, (orange)  Moss Green and Yellow. You will find them on page 26 of the Occasions Catalogue.

I am doing the Glad Wrap Technique with Brusho and because it looks a lot like underwater to me, I've chosen to combine it with the lovely Magical Mermaid stamp set from the Annual Catalogue.

I taped some Shimmery white card to a cutting mat and stamped the mermaid image in Archival Black to give me an idea of where I should aim my colour crystals. Then I liberally washed water over the page (except for the mermaid) and started sprinkling with Prussian Blue Brusho crystals on the lower half of the paper. Next I added some Moss Green and finally plenty of Yellow towards the top and throughout the taped area. Then to create some really interesting texture in your background, simply scrunch up some Cling Wrap and lay it on the card. Leave it for as long as you can to get more definite patterning (at least 30 minutes) but today I left mine for just a few minutes resulting in the patterning being quite subtle.

I stamped the mermaid again on another piece of Shimmery White and coloured her with the fabulous new Alcohol markers - Stampin' Blends, cut her out and adhered her with Fast Fuse. I love the way the background looks like coral and light filtering through the water.

You can see some of the shimmer of the paper against the darker areas of colour. I added a greeting from the Magical Mermaid stamp set and attached it to the card using dimensionals.  The ribbon is the Whisper White Organza Ribbon that has been coloured with the Dark Night of Navy Blend. This is a simple and quick way to get  ribbon matching your project.

Using the Brusho water colour crystals and colouring with the Stampin' Blends make a great combination as they both have quite intense colour. I can see all sorts of critters, coral, reeds etc in this background and hope that the technique excites you to try something similar.

Thanks for joining me today ... I've added a list of products needed to complete this project.
Please select the next blog on the list below to see more ideas and inspiration using Brusho - it is fun !

Happy Birthday Sweet Little Something

We have a couple of birthdays in our family this month with the youngest member turning 2. Of course that requires a hand made card from Grandma!

This little sweetheart of ours is a real little character - she is going to be a great artist and she spends hours drawing and singing at the same time.

This is the card I made for her.

I used one of the Painted With Love Specialty Designer Series Papers combined with Rich Razzleberry & Pink Pirouette card stock and some Gold Glimmer paper to pick of the gold foil in the paper. The balloons are a retired Stampin' Up! punch and the textured card is created using one of the Petal Pair Embossing Folders.

I used the fabulous Stampin' Up! Stamparatus to align the 3 stages of stamping the bunny. This tool makes it so easy and will be available in our new Annual Catalogue due out in June.

Just a quick post today as we are busy with family "things" this week. You'll find a list of products below. Please go to my on-line store if you'd like to purchase any Stampin' Up! products.

I cannot finish this post without offering each of you a fabulous opportunity to join Stampin' Up! during Sale-A-Bration. Alaska Achievers Blog Hop - Heartfelt Blooms

Hello and Welcome to the Alaska Achievers Blog Hop.
It has been a while since I participated in the hop but I'm so happy to have made time to join many of the other achievers and give you some fun tips on the Heartfelt Blooms stamp set.

For our hop in January we are featuring the Sale-a-Bration and Occasion catalogue products.

I have chosen to  work with Heartfelt Blooms - one of the new Distinktive stamps range  and one of the free Sale-A-Bration stamp sets you can choose when you spend $90 in my shop.
You might like to view all the free items offered this year  - you can ask me for a brochure or view it on-line

How are these stamps different to the other Stampin' Up! stamps?
Well.... these stamps "lay down the ink at different opacities, giving the finished image more depth".
It pays to read the information in the Sale-A-Bration catalogue before even starting with the main stamp in this set or you may end up with a lot of rejects! Don't ask me how I know.

This is what happens when the ink pad is too wet. You loose definition.

I have a couple of hints for you before you get started.
1. ink the stamp lightly and evenly
2. Check your ink pad is not too wet
3. Stamp quickly and apply pressure to the centre of the stamp with your index fingers

Watch the video for a demonstration.

Once you have some lovely images there are lots of things you can do with them.
Here is another idea.

Image stamped in Memento and coloured with a variety of the Light Blends colours.

The close up view shows the pixilation and lines that create the realism in the image.

For my card, I stamped the image twice - fussy cut the main flower, lightly blended the ink with a Blender Pen then applied a little Wink of Stella.  The flower has been raised up on dimensionals.
The stamping is done on Whisper White, matted onto Silver Glimmer Paper and then again, matted  onto Night of Navy that has been embossed with one of the Petal Pair Embossing Folders from the Occasions Catalogue - see if you can find them on p. 23!

To the centre of the daisy, I added a clear Multi Faceted Gem that has been coloured with the Light Night of Navy Blends pen.

Sale-A-Bration is a wonderful time to start your journey with Stampin' Up! as there are lots of additional benefits for joining during this promotion. Sweet Little Something Valentine Card

January is flying by and before we know it, February along with Valentines Day will be here.
Are you ready?

I have a card today that uses the rather  cute bunny image from Sweet Little Something stamp set by Stampin' Up! I wanted to create something that was not just hearts and flowers and came up with this card.

I used my new Stamparatus for the alignment of the 3 step stamped image, and it certainly did make things so easy.
I have a little tip to help you align the 3 stamps even if you do not have a Stamparatus.

See the small triangle above the cut out heart? That is the trick to getting this image perfectly aligned. Simply ensure that this same shape is aligned for each layer that you do, and do a quick check of the arms and feet and you will get great results.

Isn't this stamp amazing in the way it creates such detail and apparent texture? You could almost reach out and cuddle the soft pink fur of this little beautie.

The colours I used for the bear are :
Fresh Fig
Sweet Sugarplum
Pink Pirouette.

When stamping this image it is easier to start with the most detailed stamp and the darkest ink (Fresh Fig) then move to Sweet Sugarplum and the next detailed stamp, and finally to the Pink Pirouette and the final stamp.

Here is a quick video showing a tip for aligning the 3 steps perfectly. I used the Stamparatus (coming in the Annual Catalogue in June) and it was so easy. You could also use the Stamp-A-Majig, or clear blocks, as the stamps are photopolymer and you can see through them.

All the products I used are available in the current Stampin' Up! Catalogues, and a list is at the end of this post.

I cannot finish this post without offering each of you a fabulous opportunity to join Stampin' Up! during Sale-A-Bration.
You get all the benefits of being a member of the SU family (20% -25% product discount ) plus during SAB you can choose 2 additional free stamp sets of your choice.
Depending on your choice this can be well over an additional $100 of stamps for free and that is in addition to all the heavily discounted items you choose for your Starter Kit.
That means potentially over $400 worth for just $169.
Included at no extra cost are sets of current catalogues, order forms and other invitations to the value of $80
There is another added bonus - free postage for this order.
So if you've been doing the maths as you've been reading you will know this is a real bargain.
Give it a try - you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.
Until next time,
 Stay crafty
